Chinese Cloisonné Cup And Saucer , American & Chinese Flag - 1900-1910

Description

This Chinese cloisonné cup and saucer set was commissioned by the Empress Cixi as a souvenir for navy officers and enlisted men during the visit of Roosevelt’s Navy’s “Great White Fleet” to China in 1908. Decorated with Chinese and American flags, stylized fruit, and floral patterns.
The cup is approximately 1 3/8 inches in height with a base of approx. 3/4 inches that fits within an impression in the saucer. The saucer itself is approx. 2 1/4 inches across. There is some pitting to the enamel and wear consistent with age. Several small cosmetic cracks on the interior cup enamel and a small chipped portion at the bottom of the interior (Pictured.) Otherwise in good structural and cosmetic shape with no significant damage, cracks, holes, etc.
