    Description

Available here is an original British Mark I (MK1) helmet likely used during World War I, aka the Great War.
The helmet's markings (D/-78) indicate the helmet's manufacturer: James Dixon and Sons Ltd of Sheffield, produced in 1915. These markings do not indicate a particular Steel Supplier. While the helmet was made in Britain, the United States purchased 400,000 British MK1 helmets in 1917 to equip the American Expeditionary Forces - the 'Doughboys.' This antique may be one of those helmets purchased for use by the United States military.
We have left this helmet in its original condition as it was found without any cleaning or restoration efforts.  The helmet overall has a relatively uniform rusty patina.  As the images show, it has some marks and scratches as well as one or more dents along the rim.
This item includes the original chin strap and helmet liner.
Please examine the pictures provided to see the helmet's condition and reach out to us for any further information or help in identification.
