    Description

Original World War 1 British MK 1 Brodie helmet painted with the US Army AEF 79th Infantry Division insignia. The 79th distinguished itself fighting in the Lorraine region of France, and after the armistice was signed, the Division selected the Cross of Lorraine as it’s insignia.
The helmet is rimmed, the shell is non-metallic, and the helmet has the copper rivet to attach the liner to the peak. Under the front rim is the marking “HH/O 209”.  The helmet maker is “HH”, Harrison Bros & Howson Ltd. of Sheffield, the steel supplier is “O”, Samuel Osborne & Co. Ltd. of Sheffield, and “209” is the steel batch number. The helmet looks to have a size “7” on the short piece of strap near the peak.
Rust/wear as shown, liner essentially missing, and the strap is dry, cracking, and breaking apart as per photos.  The only thing I ever did was to lightly steel wool the area of the under rim markings so I could read it. This was from an estate in Maryland, and the 79th Infantry Division consisted primarily of soldiers from Maryland, Virginia, and Washington D.C.
