Antique very rare authentic, Papal Silver Rosary Case pendant of oval locket form with the chain, from the Pontificate of the Pope Pius XI. The hinged face of the case is finely hand engraved with Pius XI papal coat of arms; the interior of the case is gold gilt. Fitted at the top with suspension ring and trace link neck chain.
This type of the gift was presented personally by the Holy Father at a private audiences to the prominent guests visiting the Vatican.
Pope Pius XI (Italian: Pio XI), born Ambrogio Damiano Achille Ratti (31 May 1857 – 10 February 1939), was head of the Catholic Church from 6 February 1922 to his death in 1939. He was the first sovereign of Vatican City from its creation as an independent state on 11 February 1929. He took as his papal motto, "Pax Christi in Regno Christi," translated "The Peace of Christ in the Kingdom of Christ."
This is a very rare museum quality Papal relic, associated with the Pope Pius XI .We have been over 45 years in the antique business and this is the first time we were fortunate enough to acquire such a rare object , and we have never seen for sale the other one. We were searching in any possible sources, including reference books, museum catalogues, and on the internet for the other Silver Rosary Case Pendant with Pope Pius XI Coat of Arms. We were able to be found only two other Silver Rosary Case Pendant with Pope Pius XI Coat of Arms both are in the private collection.
