    Description

    THIS LISTING:
Set of 8 Antique Chinese Export Famille Rose Mandarin Cups and Saucer Plates
Included in this week's sale is a large service of very fine Famille Rose porcelain that recently came out of a New England estate. The service belonged to Alfred S. Higgins who was the owner of the schooner "Indiana" which was engaged in the China during the first half of the 19th century. Apparently the schooner is depicted in a China trade painting depicting Thomas Hunt's fleet at Whampoa which is part of the collection of the Peabody Essex Museum. Included in the listing is a picture of a donation receipt from when the family donated a piece of the service to the Peabody Essex in 1991. Please note the receipt pictured is not included in the sale and was just a point of reference from the family.
This listing is for a set of eight handled cups and matching saucers. The cups measure 4.5" across with the handles. Most of the cups have small chips on the rim and one has a faint hairline. The saucers measure just under 6" across. The set of saucers are in excellent condition with the exception of just one saucer having a small hairline on the rim.  As is the case with the rest of the service, they are painted with a reserve of figures in the center surrounded by birds and flowers along with other objects including gilt accented fish and bat along with two ruyi scepter.
