Vintage US Army/Marine Military Police MP or US Navy Shore Patrol SP BATON

Up for sale is a vintage military baton that I found at a yard sale years ago. I really know nothing about it other than it was most likely issued to soldiers serving in the US military as law enforcement officers. It appears to be all original.
The baton is a little banged up and has a chip at the point of entry (or exit) of the hole for the strap (see photo #5.) It measures just under 22 inches long and about 1 5/16 inches in diameter at the tip, its widest point.
